The Orlando Code Camp is next Saturday, March 22, 2008. I'll be giving two presentations:

Introduction to the Web Client Software Factory ( WCSF ) v2.0

Create more maintainable and responsive ASP.NET Web Applications faster using the Web Client Software Factory v2.0. In this session we will explore the cool new AJAX Bundles in the WCSF that help you with AutoComplete, ServerSide Validation, and Real-Time Search Functionality both within ASP.NET and ASP.NET Dynamic Data Websites. We will also explore creating more testable and loosely-coupled web applications using Model-View-Presenter and dependency injection in both ASP.NET Webforms and ASP.NET MVC Applications.

SQL Server Data Access Tips and Techniques

You have optimized and tuned your SQL Server Database and now you need to access the data from your application. Learn and explore the variety of ways you can access the data using ADO.NET, the Data Access Application Block, LINQ To SQL, ADO.NET Entity Framework, ADO.NET Data Services, and the ASP.NET Dynamic Data Framework. In this session we will walk-thru and build several examples for each technique as well as discuss tips, strengths, and weaknesses. Come with your questions and explore the wonderful world of data access to SQL Server!

FlaCodeBrew and Florida .NET Developer Events

I had this idea awhile ago that I wanted to start a Florida Code Brew Group, which had the following characteristics ( from bill evjen ) -

A Code Brew consists of a small group of peers (4-10 to be effective)
Meet with laptops ready, software ready and an understanding that each person is going to want to take a 10-30 minute lead with the group
Each lead (in turn) works through either a work-through demo (which everyone will work through as well), a problem they are having (which others will try to help solve through either advice or samples), a product demo (either something someone built or something cool that was found which you feel others would benefit from)

Essentially a laid back group of individuals who love to get together and talk development in a more interactive fashion. In addition to being local, I envisioned getting together with all sorts of developers across Florida around the time of various events, functions, and other developer happenings. Recently I purchased the FlaCodeBrew Domain to provide a place to announce upcoming events, etc.

As it so happens, I needed a list of .NET Developer Events happening around Florida to coordinate the state-wide effort and realized there really wasn't a great place to find out about Florida .NET Developer Events without visiting site to site. The MSDN Flash is cool but static in nature. I needed a place that was updated regularly and somewhat searchable.

Given I had started PnPGuidance not too long ago and made the engine multi-site capable, I decided to initially make FlaCodeBrew a central place to find out about all Florida .NET Developer Events as well as a resting place to announce FlaCodeBrew Events.

So, if you would like to find out about .NET developer events around Florida, I have already listed those events that I am aware of in December and January. You can subscribe to the FlaCodeBrew RSS Feed to stay-up-to-date on everything. I can't guarantee I mention everything, but I plan to post anything I see mentioned and I can find. If you see something missing, let me know.

I have broken up the events by .Net Developer Group and SQL Server Group so far. You can also find events by particular speakers, cities, and subjects via the tags. If you go to the site, there are specific areas for:

as well as a News page which has events that are a bit more special in nature: Day of Silverlight, Day of Patterns & Practices, SQLSaturday in Tampa, MSDN Events in Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale.

I will add more features over time, but I think this is at least a start.

CodePlex Beta - Create New .NET Projects to Share With Your Fellow Developers

If you have a tool, utility, framework, or application that you have created and you want to share it with the .NET Developer Community, a new community, called CodePlex, has been launched to provide you a workspace for sharing. I haven't looked through it in-depth, but a number of applications that were once on GotDotNet have been moved there.
