Another Reason LightSpeed O/R Mapper is Better Than LINQ To SQL :)

I was twittering yesterday about how I am starting to move completely away from LINQ To SQL and use Mindscape's LightSpeed. It's a better product, has phenomenal support, and a development team that listens and cares about their customers. Mindscape is also amazingly transparent. As a customer you know exactly what their roadmap and goals are for the LightSpeed product and they are constantly giving you opportunities to provide input on those priorities. Add wonderful nightly builds that have requested enhancements and bug fixes and you have the making of a wonderful development team and product.

Case in point. On March 24th I mentioned how much I would love to have an enhancement to the visual designer to help with inheritance. I essentially wanted to be able to move properties back and forth between base classes and derived classes without having to add and delete properties manually. Guess what I get in the nightly build?

LightSpeed Inheritance

Yeah, that's cool! They evaluated the request, liked the idea, and implemented it quickly. There is also an option on the base class to “Move to Derived Class...“ :)

If you are using LINQ To SQL, I sure wish you would download their free trial, take it for a spin, and give them some feedback on what you like and don't like. They are actively looking for feature requests for LightSpeed 3.0 and I would love to get them as much feedback from other developers as possible :)
