ADO.NET Data Services with Pablo Castro - MIX 08 Session Video

MIX08 - ADO.NET Data Services with Pablo CastroMy oldest daughter downloaded many of the MIX08 Sessions for me and copied them to my Zune this afternoon. She was patiently waiting for me to listen to one given all her efforts, so I took in another MIX08 Video by Pablo Castro: RESTful Data Services with the ADO.NET Data Services Framework. I feel like I have attended a Saturday Code Camp given all the MIX 08 Videos I watched in the past couple of days:

I haven't talked too much about ADO.NET Data Services, but I have been playing with it along with ASP.NET Dynamic Data and the ASP.NET MVC Framework for quite some time. ADO.NET Data Services used to be called Project Astoria and it was presented at MIX 07.

Like all the MIX08 Videos I have seen thus far, I highly recommend watching Pablo Castro's RESTful Data Services with the ADO.NET Data Services Framework. Pablo does an excellent job of introducing the basics of ADO.NET Data Services.

Pablo demonstrates a number of things:

  • ADO.NET Data Services using ADO.NET Entity Framework to AdventureWorks
  • ADO.NET Data Services to a Custom IQueryable Provider ( via IEnumerable.AsQueryable() )
  • Using HTTP and JSON Clients
  • Fiddler - Pablo is a Fiddler MadMan :)
  • Lazy-Loading and Eager-Loading as they apply to ADO.NET Data Services
  • Attaching ADO.NET Data Services Metadata to the ADO.NET Entity Framework Conceptual Model
  • Security, Authentication, and Interceptors

Even if you don't care a thing about ADO.NET Data Services, I recommend watching Pablo use Fiddler to get a feel for its power :)

There was no new drop of the ADO.NET Data Services at MIX08, even though attendees did receive an interim build on their MIX 08 DVD. Pablo Castro mentioned that they expect to have a new ADO.NET Data Services Beta 1 in about 3 weeks. Very cool!
