ObjectBuilder is Getting Some Love for the CodePlex Container

ObjectBuilder is Getting Some Love for the CodePlex Container

by David Hayden ( Florida .NET C# SQL Server Developer )

Poor ObjectBuilder. He was built, but personally I don't think he was given enough love and affection, and certainly not enough documentation. The ObjectBuilder project and forums have been stangnant for over a year and smelling up the place. This is too bad, because ObjectBuilder is a crucial part of the software factories and Enterprise Library put out by Microsoft Patterns & Practices. I believe the Client Team had to apply a couple of bandaids just to get ObjectBuilder working properly in the Web Client Software Factory.

There may be some light at the end of this tunnel, however. It appears Brad Wilson and Scott Dennis are doing some much needed renovation of ObjectBuilder for use with their CodePlex Container - the actual container used to do Dependency Injection for the CodePlex site. I haven't taken a deep look at what they are doing, but it has me a little excited as I think something really valuable will come out of this.

They already mentioned making the API easier to use as well as adding some AOP features that are a bit lighter-weight than what you get from the Policy Injection Application Block. I doubt we will see any of this in the software factories, but certainly we can use this in our own projects as an alternative.

I hope they keep up the good work, and I commend them for their efforts. They are appreciated.

You can listen to their progress here.
