SQL Doc has been released from Red Gate Software. I am Really starting to love SQL Doc for documenting my SQL Server 2000 and 2005 Databases. This tool is embarassingly easy to use. Per the Red Gate Website:

“SQL Doc is a fast, simple tool for documenting your SQL 2000 and 2005 databases. SQL Doc allows you to connect to databases and output documentation in an easy-to-read HTML format. It enables you to quickly access an overview of your database, including schema and dependencies.

SQL Doc is highly customizable and its UI provides the facility to select which databases, and which parts of databases, you want to document, right down to object level.

This completely new stand-alone documentation tool is ideal for DBAs who need to produce documentation for their databases, and want it done with minimum effort, but may have precise formatting or selection requirements.”

I have used it both from the command line in my nightly builds and via the GUI interface. One of the cool things it does is allow you to edit the Description Extended Property of Table Columns right within the GUI tool itself. Just click on the edit icon to enter a description and it adds the comment to the documentation and to the database.
